UK-based CuanTec secures first sale of Chitosan

CuanTec has secured its first sale of its Chrystal ® Chitosan powder.

This sale has been made to an international customer, who will use CuanTec’s Chitosan for use in the rapidly expanding Biomedical market, where Chitosan has proven therapeutic benefits for Advanced Wound Care applications.

CuanTec has been working closely with its international partner to finalise the formulation for the Chitosan powder, which the partner requires. This is the first order, in anticipation of larger orders in the future.

CuanTec’s Chrystal ® Chitosan products are tailored to meet customers’ full set of technical, quality and environmental needs. This product has a Degree of Deacetylation of 89% and a Viscosity of 1,850-2,000, making it ideal for Biomedical use. Chitosan is an exciting ingredient for Biomedical products due to its natural therapeutic properties such as it being anti-bacterial, antimicrobial, fully biocompatible and biodegradable as well as its important haemostatic property.

The benefits of Cuantec’s Chitosan are more than just the above technical specifications: manufactured in the UK at our ISO and Halal-accredited site, from raw shell byproduct from the UK fishing industry, customers can be confident of a short and reliable supply chain with a very high level of traceability and provenance. There is also an environmental contribution: the feedstock is the raw shell byproduct from the shelf fish industry. Previously this was generally burnt or sent to landfill- now it is upcycled into a valuable ingredient for the biomedical, and associated, categories to improve, and it some emergency situations save, lives.

Rupert Maitland-Titterton, CEO commented: “This is the breakthrough next step we wanted- not only to produce a product, which can save lives, but also to produce a product which we can successfully sell. We look forward to building with our international customers and other customers across the biomedical, water purification and other fields where Chitosan can offer environmentally-friendly solutions to complex, potentially environmentally-negative and costly problems”.
